SACCO IS LOOKING FOR A FERMENTATION SCIENTIST

Main roles:

The candidate will work in the Pilot Plant team based at the headquarter of Sacco System Group in Cadorago, Como (Italy). This candidate is expected to be involved in the development, scale-up, testing and tech transfer of processes of microbial cell cultures for the food fermentation and probiotic businesses. This candidate will report directly to the Pilot Plant Manager.

The Pilot Plant is the core research engine within the Operations Dept. and produce relevant data for the process developments at meaningful scales that enable the rapid, successful transfer of output to dedicated manufacturing spaces. The environment is challenging, fast-paced and ever-changing with varying degrees of process definition, but very rewarding for those who like hands-on science, have creative thinking and want to make process improvements in the R&D space.

 

Preferred qualifications:

Doctorate degree in Biology, Biotechnology or Food/Biological Engineering (or equivalent M.Sc. with 3+ years of experience in projects in the biotechnological field).

Good scientific knowledge in industrial microbiology and fermentation technology.

 

Technical skills:

Must have

At least 3 years of experience working in fermentation technology and downstream in small scale/pilot laboratories, in cGMP production environment and/or experience working in regulated environments.

A deep understanding of microbial physiology, ideally at the genetic and molecular level. Experience in research projects, preferably with lactic acid bacteria/probiotics and strictly anaerobic bacteria.

Effective presentation and communication skills. Ability to work in teams.

Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, able to apply a systematic approach to problem-solving.

Positive spirit, dynamic, flexible, precise, fast to learn. 

 

Nice to have

Experience in tech transfer of microbial production processes.

Good statistics and data analysis skills, as well as the ability to apply science-based thinking to practical applications.

Prior experience in implementing LEAN and/or Kaizen concepts for the improvement of efficiency and productivity.
