CSL Centro Sperimentale del Latte is an Italian company whose aim is to scientifically demonstrate the importance of lactic acid bacteria in the human body.

Today, Centro Sperimentale del Latte researches, develops, manufactures and sells probiotic strains intended for the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food and agro-livestock industries. These probiotics include lactic acid bacteria as well as other microorganisms.
After its acquisition in 2013, and together with Sacco, CSL has gained additional skills, knowhow and capabilities that have allowed them to become one of the most recognised and reliable companies in the probiotic industry.

The collaboration of our two companies (CSL and Sacco) with such vast expertise, has enabled the creation of an extensive collection of microbial strains that have been isolated and selected over the years for their probiotic properties. These strains cover several health applications including gastrointestinal health, oral health, skin health, women’s health, children’s health, allergy, immunity and sports among others.

CSL also offers a highly flexible toll manufacturing service (from laboratory scale to pilot production) and can work in partnership with strain owners for the development, production and commercialization of their own probiotic strains, produced in our cutting edge manufacturing facilities.

  1. 1948

    Dr. Leo Vesely founds the Centro Sperimentale del Latte with the aim of scientifically demonstrating the; importance of the lactic acid bacteria for the human body from here on CSL pursues this philosophy with a world leadership role in nutritional and health-food issues, in the human and animal fields.

  2. 1970

    CSL starts marketing its products in major world markets through a direct sales network and distributors present throughout the territories.

  3. 1980

    Creation of the agro-livestock division, by means of the study and selection of special lactic acid bacteria it allows for the implementation of an effective methodology for obtaining healthier silage.

  4. 1990

    Given the prodigious market demands, the need arises for a new facility; this year the plant in Zelo Buon Persico (LO) is built, where the company (offices and production) is still present today.

  5. 1991

    International expansion is consolidated, first with the opening of a branch in France then becoming CSL France, based in Claix.

  6. 1994

    It is the year of the opening and the start of activities at the production site in Pasturago (MI).
    The CSL microbial strains with functional properties and health benefits are deposited in International Collections with an IDA status.

  7. 1997

    The CSL agro-livestock division is committed to guaranteeing the viability and healthiness of the productions in the first link in the food chain leading to the consumer, operating with maximum respect for the environment.

  8. 2012

    Starting from this year, the know-how and the different divisions of CSL products are present at major trade shows in Europe and the world.

  9. 2013

    Sacco Ltd, based in Cadorago, acquires CSL, Centro Sperimentale del Latte.

  10. 2016

    CSL is an integral part of Sacco System, the convergence of excellence in the field of biotechnology applied to the food and health industries.
    Four different companies (Sacco, Clerici, Kemikalia, CSL) are interconnected in a single network, which is active on the world market as an organic and functionally unified whole, while retaining all the characteristics of each individual company.
