Our contribution to the SDGs

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the 17 global goals for sustainable development defined by the United Nations in 2015 to aspire to in the coming fifteen years.
With our business strategy and our products, we aim to make our mark on the achievement of these goals, focussing above all on:
 

Goal 8 "Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all"
Goal 9 "Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation"

We tend to develop increasingly high levels of productivity through diversification, technological upgrading and innovation, paying special attention to high added values sectors such as nutrition, pharmaceuticals and agriculture.
We expect to maintain a double-figure % increase in the coming years but at the same time, we are trying to separate economic growth from environmental degradation, gradually improving the efficiency of the resources and adopting clean technology that respects the environment.
We encourage scientific research, promoting creativity and innovation, allocating 6% of our turnover to research and development and gradually increasing the number of our researchers: almost 50% of the recruitments in the last 5 years have been in the laboratory and more than 60 researchers work for us on a full-time basis.
We re-invest in our company to create new jobs and to improve the health and safety of our more than 300 workers at the production sites. We have defined a policy to ensure the best possible protection of health, safety and the environment and prevention of all the potential forms of risk. This policy allows us to maintain an extremely low accident/injury rate with frequency and seriousness indexes well below the national average for chemical industries.
 

Goal 12 “Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns”
The idea of sustainable protection goes hand-in-hand with the concept of a circular economy. For us it means optimising the production cycles, maximising the productivity of the energy resources and raw materials used, minimising waste, maintaining the biological and technical materials as long as possible in the economic chain, favouring the rehabilitation or reintegration of the biosphere.
For this reason we have always paid great attention to reducing the environmental impact of our production processes and the efforts or our R&D team are constantly focussed on the optimisation of processes in order "to do more, with less". We work constantly on the correct management of chemical substances, waste and our sub-products; we have launched a programme to reduce the production of waste in all activities through prevention, reduction, recycling and re-use.
Goal 12 also includes the promotion of sustainable consumption, for example, by contributing to the reduction of food waste.
Almost one-third of the food produced globally is thrown away before reaching our tables. Our special 4PROTECTION, Lyoflora and Lyocarni cultures can help combat this waste, improving the conservation of food products in a wholly natural way, limiting the perishability of food and their unsuitability for consumption.

Goal 3 "Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages"
Faced with a global challenge to improve the health and wellbeing of the entire population, we are a centre of excellence in the study and production of microbial cultures that can improve the well-being of people and fight some diseases in a safe and natural way, resulting in a higher quality of living.
Clinical studies carried out on the probiotic cultures present in our portfolio have demonstrated their capacity to ameliorate some disorders including cardiovascular, skin, mouth and throat and nose ones, reduce the symptoms of allergies and celiac disease, reinforce the immune system as well as improve the performance of athletes and general wellbeing. All the effects are documented and published in authoritative scientific journals.
We are focussed above all on this goal and for this reason, we have entered into rewarding partnerships with research centres and universities to study and find new solutions in the world of microbiology to contribute to world health.
